Woodward Court beforeWoodward Court completed

Grace Landscapes Ltd recently completed the refurbishment and extension of a courtyard garden at Woodward Court for City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council.  The residential and dare care facility is situated in Allerton and specialises in Alzheimer’s and covers Dementia, Mental Health conditions and old age.

The courtyard was starting to look old and tired and needed an input of life to invigorate the patients and staff alike. Roger Scales of CBMDC designed a scheme to brighten up and extend the garden incorporating not only places to site but things to do to stimulate the mind and provoke memories.

The existing boundary wall was removed and the garden extended to double its size, tired old paving was replaced with resin bound gravel with feature block paving circles and paths. Existing planters were removed and new ones constructed from machine rounds in various heights with interactive features introduced.  The sensory planting softens the scheme and provides interest all year round.  A summerhouse and a shed with a veranda were placed to provide shade and shelter from the unpredictable Yorkshire weather; an existing pergola spruced up with a lick of paint.

The finishing touches were provided by a water feature, a fully refurbishLord Mayor openinged, though not working, red telephone box, a post box and finger post.Woodward Court telephone box

The scheme was completed in March and the garden was officially opened by the Lord Mayor on the 17 July in glorious sunshine.  The staff and residents are delighted with their new courtyard and are using it to the full.
